This year was a far more difficult Great Midwest Novice Nationals than in recent years. The last one this difficult, I think, was in 2005. That said, all of our students did well and we had some amazing results:
Henry Winber was runner-up in Congress losing to a student from East Chapel Hill, NC--he lost by less than one point over the whole tournament.
The NCX team of the Appel's broke to octo-finals of Policy before being taken out by the eventual champions.
Emma Weddle had a huge tournament...3rd best LD speaker...lost in quarter finals to Valley
The PFD team of Elena Hildabrandt and Jenna Pokorny was left out of quarterfinals...a difficult cut as they certainly deserved to go on with a 4-2 record and a difficult prelim schedule.
It was a great job by everyone...there are always stories from Novice Nationals. Find out which student has a new name (Zerma)...and, much to my pleasure, there were no small plastic animals to purchase at the Ox Yoke Inn. Spring will be so much calmer this year!
