I think we have everything in order now for novice nationals....12 students will compete and 6 other students will judge. Departure is from the North Roosevelt parking lot at 11:15am...this should allow enough time for Central students to catch the bus and be here. There are three drivers: Strong, Coach Nate and Katy Roat's mom, Kathy. Kathy will return to Iowa City late Saturday to pick up students returning when the event is over. LD and Policy semi final and final rounds are on Sunday. If we are so fortunate to be in that position, we will retool our return plans accordingly.
The tournament is at Iowa City West High School and our students will be home housed by Iowa city West parents.
Coaches will be staying at the Coralville Marriott.
Our normal return plans are to leave Iowa City about 630...eat in the Amannas and be in Des Moines by 11 or a little sooner depending on how slow the service is at the Ox Yoke Inn. Kids will be asked to eat German (tradition) and those not eating pork for vegitarian or religious reasons will be exposed to pickled ham!
This trip is a "bonding trip" for coaches and students. Many great stories come out of novice nationals each season and alums of the program always talk about their Novice Nationals Experience!
Freshman parents--you owe a big thanks to Kathy Roat, a senior parent, who bailed out our driving problem this weekend!
