Week of 2/22 Update

Lots happening in TRHS Speech and Debate World -- so here's an info packed blog post!

Practice Tuesday
We won't have practice Tuesday so that we can help judge the second to last middle school tournament - hosted by Lincoln. Students should carpool together and be there by 3. If someone needs a ride Mrs. McCool can take four students.

IFL's Deadlines
We'll be submitting our entry to IFL's (our last team wide tournament) on Friday morning. All students who are interested in competing will have to let Mrs. McCool know at practice on Thursday. Don't forget -- that is also the day that if a student wants to do interp they must have their script draft with them at practice.

April Tournaments: Congress Quals + JV/Novice Nationals at Iowa City West
Our district's congressional debate qualifier will be held April 2. More info to come... (once its sent to us!)
JV/Novice Nats is the following weekend and is for first and second year debaters - begins April 8.

Student Bills
Lots of students have not paid for tournaments and have outstanding balances on their Infinite Campus Accounts. Please take a look at IC and if possible pay your balance. If you can't cover the balance all at once please at least make a payment toward that balance. If you have questions about posted fees on your account please email me and/or our bookkeeper Ms. Kuehler.

Team Clothing Sale
Team "Swag" (clothing) orders are due to McCool by the end of practice on Thursday. Students can pay with exact cash or check. Please remember this is an optional purchase.

Nationals in Salt Lake City!
Big shout out to our Nats '16 qualifiers - Regan Copple (12) , Danny Drane (12), Jacob Thompson (11), Maddie Kahl (9), Anna Barcus (12), Andy Anderson (12), Sean Anderson (10), Mary Beth Armstrong (10), and Thomas Dainty (10).  There may be more students added in the upcoming weeks due to Congress Quals and World Schools. We'll have parents meetings in the weeks to come (we cannot register until at the earliest April 3 - so I'll have more info after that date.)

Rough Rider Roundup
Many students helped us recruit incoming freshmen for next year - we had over 70 "interest" signups. That is very promising! The work we do with middle school students each month is really going to help us build our program. Keep it up!

Banquet Planning
At the end of each season the team holds a banquet to celebrate our success and our time together. We are starting this planning process earlier this year and hope that some parents would like to be involved. Looking for people to help arrange the catering, decorations, and a location. If you're interested in helping please let Mrs. McCool know. [At this point the date is TBD]

Summer Camp
Now is the time to start thinking about summer camp for this summer. Speech and debate camp is a great way to get a head start on next season. They can be expensive but they also can be a great investment in your kid's speech and debate performance/career. Of course it isn't for everyone, but if you are interested in more information about camps please ask one of the coaches.
