Two of the five Roosevelt students who competed in Catholic Nationals this weekend in Chicago did very well-making final rounds in their events. Coaching students who make a final stage is a thrill for me and that happened twice again this weekend:
Lily Nellans tied for the Championship in Extemp only to lose the championship on a tie breaker. Seems like we never win a tie breaker when it matters. Lily nearly picked the tournament until the final round. The final round panel was mostly interp judges from the NE and the couldn't back anyone making the finals tab a mess. Mary Cosica from Montville NJ won on the tie breaker. She is a senior who will not be at NFL Nationals. Montville historically is a solid extemp program. Of late they had gone quiet until this weekend. A big congratulations to Lily on her Runner Up position at Catholic Nationals.
Luke Theuma survived a difficult semi finals Congress house to advance into finals. He was not one of the 8 place winners. That is all we know other than he was ranked very highly in prelim house and was in the judge's top five in semi finals. But a computer glitch has delayed posting of the final house results.
Congratulations to both Luke and Lily who gave up their graduation weekends to compete--and compete well they did!
