Here is an update on the All American Award quests of two of our students and on the All State point standings as well:
Both Nathan Leys and Lily Nellans remain in solid position to win High School All American Honors this year. So does Simon Sheaff of Dowling Catholic. I think all three of them will win the coveted award. The Top 25 students in the nation win the award. At this writing, Leys remains 2nd on the All American watch list with 3828 points. Junior Lily Nellans just cleared 3500 points this weekend is now at 3570--remains in third. Both have destroyed the mark set by Roosevelt Assistant Coach Billy Strong in 2008 when he became only the 2nd All American in Iowa history. I suspect when we return home from NFL Nationals in June, we will have the third and fourth in Iowa history! This is exciting to see happening.
Lily remains well on pace to smash the All Time National Points Record next season and maybe set the bar high enough that it holds for some time. It is hard to believe that any future Iowa student will be able to equal what she is likely to post next season. She could write a point total that no one touches in Iowa for a very long time.
All State Awards: These are presented to the top 11 speakers in Iowa based on NFL points earned at the end of any season. Five Roosevelt students are in the hunt and four pretty much are sitting pretty.
Obviously Nathan and Lily are one two in Iowa points. Carolyn Evans is fifth overall in Iowa which is amazing considering she is a second year senior. Luke Theuma has pushed into the top 10 and Madi Holmes is 12th at of this am. All five should exceed 1500 points this season-reaching the highest level of degrees within the National Forensic League (no small accomplishment since only about half of one percent get there).
