Nellan brush with history

While I don't like talking about this stuff...just so you all know.  There is an interesting piece of history that Lily finds herself caught up in around the extemp community.  It is that there is an extemp "grand slam" of four events:  MBA, EXTOC, Cat Nats and NFL Nats.  It has been won only once, in 2005 by Kevin Troy of Eagan, MN.  The slam in it's current configuration started in 1997 when EXTOC came about.

Until now no one has ever challenged Troy's record.  Troy won a total of six grand slam events including one as a sophomore.  Suddenly, Lily finds herself the first one to be in the position to challenge him.

The truth is that Troy was an incredible extemp student who could have won more than he did but he took his junior season away from extemp to focus on policy.  And he and his partner were pretty solid in policy--finishing 10th that year at NFL Nationals.  He was an amazing forensics student.

We don't want Lily focused on the wrong things here..chasing Troy is a waste of energy.  So as she prepares for NFL Nationals...she needs everyone's support, encouragement and friendship.  She doesn't need a bunch of people questioning her about the slam.  If it happens--great for Lily.  If it doesn't happen, we all know Lily has already put up one of the greatest extemp runs in the history of the activity.

PLEASE--be a good team mate...support and help in anyway you can.  If you can file some that really helps.  She is having a hard time doing it all by herself...no one else is doing any filing.  A half hour here and there is a big help to her.
