The most important win of the weekend came for Kayleigh Courard-Hauri and Nathan Leys in Public Forum Debate. They again went undefeated AND secured their invite to the University of Kentucky in April to the Tournament of Champions. And they did it is a matter of three weeks (unheard of...TOC bids are so difficult to win). They got their first leg at Valley and their second on Saturday evening. They remain undefeated for the season sending Millard West of Omaha home in the final round with a resounding 3-0 win over their highly regarded team. They have won 19 in a row in TOC bid tournaments--impressive!

Varsity PFD: Madi Holmes and Max Hardt lost in quarterfinals. It was Max's first debating since his freshman season three years ago. Pretty amazing performance considering Madi filled in for Andy Troxell and had only a few hours notice and was not prepped on this topic at all.
Top speaker in tournament: Nathan Leys, 6th Best Kayleigh Courard-Hauri, 16th Madi Holmes and 17th Max Hardt
Novice Policy: Jake and Ted Appel were defeated in semi finals by Dowling while Reid Wade debating without his partner Max Pilcher on Saturday lost the championship to Dowling. All in all, a very solid performance from these novice students.

Humorous Interp: Luke Theuma 1st, Andy Troxell 2nd
Prose Poetry: Aubrey Davidson 2nd
Best performances of the weekend: Kayleigh and Nathan (54pts) Madi (51pts) and Reid (45 pts)
Team gained 8 degrees including reactivating Max Hardt. Madi Holmes moved into the Top 25 in the West Iowa District this weekend!
