Pakistan is a really messed up place. Not only are there terrorists, and floods, and one of the poorest countries on the planet, BUT NOW President Sharif has to deal with the ultimate crisis. Pakistan's primary news channel is attempting to purchase the broadcasting rights of the famous American made show 'The Naked News'. As a slightly frightening side note all of Pakistan's news broadcasters are male...maybe that explains Justin Beber's dual citizenship??

Whether it's in response to Beber fever about to sweep Pakistan or really mishaps Shairf's government has had in dealing with the economy and the recent floods, as the New York Times of September 28th, 2010 reports the military leadership is now attempting to subvert Sharif's legitimate authority to rule and are calling for a government shakeup.
Background:
Historically Pakistan's military has been truly the leadership of the nation. Through a series of coups, and military takeovers they have always held leverage over the government because the generals have hte sworn allegiance of the military and own upwards of 70% of the nation's economy resources according to the May/June 2010 edition of Foreign Affairs. However, a military takeover in Pakistan today could lead to direct intervention by the United States or at a minimum international condemnation that threats to cut off significantly important aid to the disaster ridden nation as the aforementioned NYT points out.
Statement of Significance:
Considering that the military will likely attempt to remove Sharif from power it is critical to examine how they can do so without threatening the survival to the nation itself by addressing today's question.
Question:
How should military leaders in Pakistan pursue their proposed shakeup of the Pakistani government?
Answer:
The military should instigate a peaceful coup de tat. They can do so with three strategies:
1) Strategically relocate military divisions from the Kashmir region.
2) Use legislative power to enact a national holiday.
3) Build a corrosive evidence package against Shairf.
First Point:
Transition:
For many reasons the Pakistani government has always placed its most loyal, well trained, and best equipped troops along the Indian Pakistani border within the Kashmir region. Effectively these troops regard it as their duty to preserve the TRUE government and purpose of the nation of Pakistan. Such hard line forces are the exact ones that the military needs to execute a coup de tat by First, strategically relocating military divisions from the Kashmir region.
Sub-point A:
Troops within the Kashmir region have been kept there in the past by military opposition to deploying them against the Pakistani people in the FATA region of Pakistan. However, as the Daily Star of Lebanon on September 15th, 2010 illuminates, that President Sharif wants these elite divisions deployed immediattly to quell renewed violence in the region immediately. By authorizing the transfer of such divisions which would have to geographically march through the capital. This provides the single best scenario to have loyal troops on the ground to take government offices and principally the offices of the President.
By agreeing to this movement the country could witness the first coup in almost 20 years.
Sub-point B:
The Council of Military Relations in its 2010 Journal argues that the only way in which the Pakistani military can orchestrate a peaceful coup de tat is to have loyal troops in the capital who will not engage in violent offenses against the public or government. The Kashmir divisions are professional soldiers as the journal goes on to assert and they will follow their orders.
The book Pakistani Political Crisis and the Changing of the Guard by Kabali Whalidi published in 2009 asserts this peaceful coup de tat would be supported by the public if and only if the military did not go on a violent persecution of followers of Shairf. Whalidi continues that there is no need to persecute the followers of Sharif. His popularity and support even within his main voting blocks is quickly falling and the majority of the populace will support the military takeover.
Impact:
With the diversion of divisions from Kashmir the military gains a significant upper hand in the battle against poor governance. This will simultaneously help to draw back tensions in the Kashmir region and ultimately lead to the continuation of reducing military forces in the region and a sign of good faith to the Indian government who after the NYT of today reports reopened schools in Kashmir are waiting for Pakistan to drawback military forces to proceed with greater Kashmir autonomy.
