Saying that they are more of a threat, makes them a larger threat. (from Nate--this is good lots of answers to some of what we heard this weekend).

The perceptual threat of the failed nations are created by failed nation building exercises. Another reason why US is a threat to itself.

Has anyone written up the argument that the failed states are not the threat. The threats are the non state actors? Good pt from Nate..the resolution claims it is failed states that might be a threat but the failed states themselves rarely are the threat--rather the threat is from those who take advantage of failed states and WERE OR MIGHT HAVE BEEN A THREAT ANYWAY...A FAILED STATE JUST MADE THEIR LIFE A BIT EASIER. (In other words, Osama's group likely would have attacked the US anyway just from another location).
