Sometimes we go into national circuit events such as Mason or Schwan's or invitational round robins and we go in with an expectation of doing well...and we normally are very competitive.
The past couple of years we have run into a lot of Regis and Bronx School of Science competitors.
Just for the record here is the strength rating of those schools:

Roosevelt just cleared 200 for a strength rating-our best in history. This essentially means those programs are 3.5 times larger and more successful than ours. They are amongst the largest programs in the nation and have resources we can only dream of. Yet we beat teams from these schools on a pretty regular basis when we face them. That says a lot about you as student/competitor and about Roosevelt in general. One reason I coach at Roosevelt is the strength of our students. The only real differences between Roosevelt and Regis is size and money. Neither of which really matter in an individual debate round.
As we begin the process of our final tournaments: Novice Nationals, Extemp TOC and NFL Nationals--don't let the name of the school you might be facing scare you...over the past few years we have wins over a lot of "big name" programs from Glenbrooks North and South/New Trier/Edina/Apple Valley/Scarsdale/Regis/Bronx-Science/Lyndale/Walt Whitman/KCC and far more.
I've posted this notice mostly for novices who might not understand we can win and have taken rounds from schools like these. One of the goals of novice nationals is to get some of our first year students settled down. Remember the school name means NOTHING...its just another round of debate to be won by someone. That win might as well be ours! Don't start any round beaten by the name of your oponent.
