Overall, it was a good trip to Marshall, Mn despite the grueling bus ride. Here are the outround results for Roosevelt:

Non Advancing Semi Finalists: Mirza Germovic, Chris Oman
Extemp Champion (2nd year in a row!): Billy Strong
Because this is one of the cumlative tabbed events if more than one prelim goes poorly it comes back to haunt you at some point. This tournament measurers consistency which is what Billy produced: 2,1,1,1,1,1,1. In a tournament of this type pooling in prelims is critical...if you get a tough opponent, you almost have to win in prelims or you get punished again because they picked up on you both in the prelim and in consistency. The tabbing philosophy is similar to NFL Nationals.
What is nice to see is that our extemp students are consistent in performance week in and week out. While there is always someone with an off weekend here and there...we once again proved to the Midwest extemp community that we are as good as anyone. We advanced more students than anyone else. About all Apple Valley can hang their hat on is two finalists who had no chance of winning. Billy had them beat before the round went off. Straight sixes on his part still beats them. Lincoln East and Eastview got their finalist but never really had a chance either.
The Apple Valley Coach and I are somewhat friends. We respect each other's programs anyway.
Zach told me something very interesting...he knew the names of our extemp kids and knew how they had done this year as the tournament started...which means he was concerned enough to get on line and scout things out. I think next year at Schwan's it could be a race between the two of us and each with a lot of students in play in extemp. Might be fun!
Roosevelt also outpoints Dowling in sweeps since they only had 3 quarterfinalist and one semi finalist. Some of our non advancing extemp students were very close to breaking so it was a nice job by all! For the 2nd year in a row we take 10 students and beat the 24 Dowling kids in sweeps!
