Here are the key Roosevelt results of the Tournament:
Most of you did not know that Lillian Chesser and Billy Strong won their final round vs. Dowling in Public Forum since it was run after most of you had left. They won a 3-0 decision. Dowling left disappointed to be sure. Both Lillian and Billy competed not feeling well. They are to be commended for their efforts.
Chris Oman and Nick Swingle were defeated by Lillian and Billy in the semi final round. Olivia Sandbothe and LizMcCabe were beaten in their quarterfinal round by the team that Billy and Lillian beat for the title.
In LD debate congrats to Taylor Yocom and Emily Schoot for making the semi final round of novice LD! Both lost in semi's.
In Policy, Harrison Hayward and Minh Tam le won the Novice Title without having to debate.
Cedar Rapids Washington was ruled ineligible after producing a losing record in prelims. Roosevelt was the only novice CX team with a winning record in prelims. Because CR Wash and Roosevelt ran the tab room--a non vested NFL Coach (Greg Stephens of Okoboji) was the adjudicator as to if a final round should be held...he ruled for Roosevelt. Minh and Harrison went 3-2 in a collapsed varsity/novice pool. It didn't appear the Wash was too happy with the decision.
In extemp, Roosevelt certainly showed up to play:
1st--Billy Strong 2nd-Chris Oman 4th-Olivia Sandbothe 10th Michael Flannery
Roosevelt had two solid performances in Oral Interpretation:
2nd-Tess Yocom and 7th Myisha McLachen
Greg Boal in only his 2nd attempt finiashed 5th in HI!
