It has been 11 years since a Roosevelt Policy Team won a round of policy debate. That changed this past Saturday when Mihn and Harrison easily dispatched a Kansas City Central novice team at UMKC in Kansas City.
Congratulations to them both and to everyone associated with our program who has played a part in the rebirth of Roosevelt debate. Even compared with last season, we have more students, are stronger overall, deeper and more talented. Keep working hard (as I know you have been) and I promise each of you that good things will happen during your Roosevelt Debate years.
For those of you who are novices and worried about your first speaking experience in the coming weeks please have some faith in your teammates and coaches. Most importantly have some faith in yourself. You will make mistakes. You will find yourself in tough situations and you will have some disappointments. But thru it all, over the course of just one season, you will go from scared to stand up for yourself to wanting to stand up for yourself. It is an amazing transition one that is measered not in days but in months and over a season.
Keep the faith...what happened today will shake up the Iowa Policy Debate Community. Any win over Kansas City Central is huge...far bigger than a win over any other Iowa school. If Mihn and Harrison can do it--so can each of you at some point this season!!!!
