Returning students: We need about 5-10 stock Congress bills to start the season. I am hoping that each of you could draft one or two bills and email them to me ASAP. These bills, once approved, will be our initial entries for the year. As the year progresses, we can change bills to force competitors to do some additional research. But....we need something soon for our early submissions. May I suggest some areas to think about:
1). A law supporting the Palestinian authority with substancially improved aid with a proviso that Hamas not be part of any future Palestinian government.
2). A bill banning student text messaging while driving.
3). A bill allowing any Iowa voter to vote in any precient during on election day as a means to
increase voter turnout.
4). A bill providing for economic assistance to families of illegals residing in the State of Iowa provided they take trackable steps and make progress toward citizenship. Bill would also provide zero benefits for those not making progress toward citizenship.
5). A bill which provides US illegals with Iowa legal standing if they register and agree to pay taxes on their earnings. In return they would recieve benefits and assistance.
6). A bill which makes it a criminal act to alter livestock shown for awards at any county, regional or state fair in Iowa.
7). A bill which requires Iowa children under the age of 18 to be registered at and in attendance at a certified public or private school in Iowa. It could be the no dropouts allowed bill.
8). A bill establishing the ability of any public school in Iowa to mandate a dress code including uniforms.
9). A bill which forces school districts to open web access to high school students excluding pornography sites.
10). A bill which requires all outdoor bathroom facilities to be environmentally acceptable as regulated by the DNR. The no outhouse bill.
11). A bill which allows any Iowa farmer the right to harvest no more than 5 deer a year on their owned farm property.
Just some thoughts. If each extemp, congress and PF student could produce a bill or two, we could have plenty of choices for the year. Take any bill you have from last year and simply format your thoughts accordingly.
