Coaches said their "final" goodbyes to two seniors last night upon our return from Nationals in Wichita. Anna is off to UNI where she has accepted a small forensics scholarship to compete--the first Roosevelt student to do so in a number of years. Sam is off to Grinnell College and hopefully finds a little time to help us out during the course of his first year.
We are ever so hopefull that Sam and Billy did accomplish one big item on their list this past week--beat out Nall and Hamilton for the top points leaders in Iowa. It has been a long time since a Roosevelt student led that list at the end of a season. Rough calculations show the race very close but either Sam or Billy should be tops and the other 2nd. Its just to close to call.
We'll know in a week or so.
Anna was spectacular in Poetry being eliminated in quarters. Just spectacular.
Billy performed very well, just missing a semi final break. He would rally back in impromptu (and event he had never done before) to was eliminated in quarters there as well.
A measure of how well Anna and Billy performed....quarters is the top 24-30 in the nation in any event. Poetry had 475 students entered, Impromptu 483, and IX was around 325.
Sam just missed (by one point) advancing in FX. That was a tough break for Sam.
Olivia did well in commentary going out in double octos.
Liz (in only her second congress exeperience) saw an outstanding Senate house and enjoyed her experience.
A memorable trip overall. Nate and I will now start planning for next season, recruiting freshmen and finding money (we hope!). Have a great summer,
Coach Harry
