In just a few days we'll begin the journey to Chicago for the largest and most competitive tournament of our regular season -- The Glenbrooks! The fees for this tournament will be posted when we return, so scroll down to October 2's post if you're looking for how much it will cost for your student to attend.
Students will be excused from their last class of the day (4th block) and are to meet the bus in FRONT OF THE BUILDING at 1:10. We want to leave as soon as possible. We'll travel that day to Glenview and check into our hotel -- The Courtyard Marriott Glenview (1801 Milwaukee Ave, Glenview, IL 60025). Students will need money for meals.
On Friday evening students will be able to sign out to go dinner in groups of 4 or more. There are many different restaurants for them to choose from - with several different price points.
On Saturday we'll be up VERY early to drop everyone off at the competition buildings. Competition will last until late in the evening. Students may not leave the building at any point and should often check in with the coach who is on site.
On Sunday we'll check out of the hotel early in the morning and head to the competition sites. Students will be expected to watch rounds the entire day - either they are competing or watching. They should be flowing or judging/ranking for themselves. They will have the chance to see some of the best competitors in the country and they should jump at the opportunity to learn and observe quality debates/performances. Students may change out of competition attire but only if they are wearing something "Roosevelt." They should also not wear sweat pants, yoga pants, slippers, or other lounge/sleep wear. Jeans are fine. Once all competition is over we'll depart from Chicagoland and head home to TRHS. It will be a late night but students will not be excused from any classes on Monday.
If students are doing so well that they are still competing on Monday arrangements will be made and communicated to parents asap.
As a reminder - students are representing their school, their team, and their families at all times. As a result we have a Three Strikes Policy that helps students understand our expectations for them at all times. At the center of our expectations is respecting others - regardless of who they are.
