Departure: We will leave from the TRHS Victory Bell (we are taking a charter bus) at 1:00pm on Thursday. That means students will only miss their last block of the day (and all of Friday). We will be traveling with the Lincoln Team and the North Team (to save money on travel). Rounds do not start until 5pm. We will have plenty of time to check in/change at the hotel.
Lodging: We are staying at the Heartland Inn in Coralville. The address there is 87 2nd St, Coralville, IA 52241 and the phone number is (319)351-8132. There is free breakfast at the hotel each morning.
Tournament Schedule: http://www.joyoftournaments.com/ia/ihsfl-state/info.asp?p=3 (of course subject to change)
Return: The tournament should end Saturday after dinnertime . We won't know what time we'll be leaving until we know how many students are still debating. Of course we will have the students call you when we leave Iowa City so that you have a better guess of when they will be home. You will need to pick them up from Roosevelt.
Attire: The students should wear their usual speech/debate clothes. If they are no longer debating they MUST wear some kind of TRHS shirt or top. It can be any type of TRHS shirt as long as it clearly shows they are a part of our team. Sweatpants and PJ pants are not to be worn anywhere but at the hotel. Other teams may look sloppy, we will be comfortable but never sloppy!
Other: This tournament is hosted on a college campus. We will do our best to supervise our students as much as possible but there are times they will need to walk to another building to go to a round. We will ask that students travel in packs and ALWAYS be accessible by cellphone. There is A LOT of downtime at this tournament and it can be very tempting to want to explore U of I. This is not an option. Students are to go to round and then return to our designated base in the student center.
We are placing a great deal of trust in our team -- if for any reason this trust is violated the student will have to remain within arms reach of a coach. If a students violation is serious enough we might call their parent or guardian and ask you to come get them... We sincerely believe this will not be an issue.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact any of the coaches.
