What a solid Glenbrook's performance by our Riders this past weekend in Chicago. In a year in which things hadn't gone our way as much as some of our students would have liked, a break through at the second largest tournament in the US-The Glenbrook's.
1). Murphy Burke was runner-up in Oratory and quartered in Dramatic Interp and did it exhausted from a nasty cold-stomach virus. One of the tougher gut it out performances in my tenure as a coach here. I'm really proud of any student who can overcome challenges and produce exceptional results.
Its never easy competing--illness is part of the battle. Congrats to Murphy!
2). Lily Nellans cruised to an easy blow out win in the extemp field. In a tournament which produced a fair number of upsets in elimination rounds, Nellans was the easy winner mastering a semi final round of domestic economy questions which challenged most kids and a final round of US Foreign Policy which buried the field (except her). The first inkling of the bow out came from a judge who texted afterwards-"killed it."
3). Emma Weddle finally won a Tournament of Champions bid in Lincoln Douglas debate. She spent a third night in Chicago with Coach Lawler to compete in the championship bracket today. She lost in Octo Finals to Newark Science on a 2-1 ballot. Newark was the 3rd seed and Emma the 19th seed.
Great job by all-especially the three highlighted above.
