Johanna Russell has resigned her position as head coach at Ankeny High School as she approaches the birth of another child (expected in early March). Johanna fully intends to return to coaching someday but not in the next few years. Ankeny is now seeking two coaches--one for each high school--next season. Those jobs will draw a lot of attention because of the past successes of the Ankeny program (4 state titles in the past 12 seasons for example). However, next season, there will be two high school teams so the existing talent is split between Ankeny High School and Ankeny Centennial High School.
Centennial will be the stronger of the programs initially. Johanna has done an amazing job in her two years as head coach--keeping that program very strong and moving forward.
