We have secured another Roosevelt parent to drive to Okoboji this Friday and back later Saturday. So two mothers will be handling the team: Kathy Roat and Mary Johnson. They will be in the NW parking lot Friday am after first block to pick up all of our students. As a result of them stepping up, we will not have to borrow a couple of seats from Des Moines East. If you are in first block at Central, please catch the Roosevelt bus and get with the team as soon as possible.
Students attending: Sarah Johnson, Ted Appel, Jake Appel, Barkalde Omar, Henry Winber, Katy Roat, Tom Brown, Aubrey Davidson, and Emma Weddle.
There is NO hotel cost as Okoboji is repaying student housing we shared with them back in October. Students will be picked up by their host debate families after rounds are complete Friday night and returned early Saturday morning. Thank you everyone who hosted Okoboji students a few months back!
We are entering the Appels on Friday night in FUN forum...a special event those those who don't usually do PF and have nothing else to do Friday evening. Get base cases from dropbox. If you are not in speech Friday night, we will enter you in fun forum. Be a ridiculous as you want!
Additionally there is is a chance that Andy Roat will drive up Friday night..giving us three judges and three vehicles back. But in any event, we have everyone covered. Thank you Roat's and Johnson's for accommodating this opportunity for our kids.
This tournament is a low key NW Iowa event. Even if you are a novice and think you aren't ready, this is as safe of a place to compete as their is in a new event. To our knowledge there are no HIGH level varsity students in speech and in most of the other events. Our goal for the novices is to learn and have fun. This is a great event for them to do that. Lots a great past memories for our kids on trips to Okoboji.
Feel free to text and phone me at Mason. I will be back in touch as quickly as I can be and have a great trip.
Weather: there is some snow in the forecast. If the amounts predicted increase substancially or a winter storm warning is issued prior to departure, we will drop from the tournament. But for now, the weather seems to be more or less normal winter driving condtions. And if driving conditions deteriorate while you are at Okoboji, we can withdraw and head for Des Moines.
Greg Stevens is the Okoboji debate coach.
Cell numbers: Kathy Roat 988-8088 Mary Johnson 491-1550. Students please share your cell numbers with the parents.
