Bus: 56 seat coach charter from Trans Iowa Charters departing Roosevelt at 8am, departing East High by 830...arrival in Okoboji around 130.
BRING SNACKS WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP FOR LUNCH.
This is not a tournament where we want parents to drive you after a class or two. The tournament starts at 230--it is more than four hours to Okoboji in the winter and you must be accounted for ahead of the 230 start.
We could use a parent volunteer to help judge if someone wants to do it. You might have to bunk with your kid but we will figure that out. So if there is a parent wanting to donate Friday and Saturday to the program--we would be happy to take you. Call me if you are interested.
PARENTS: We could use a case or two of water for the bus ride and some chips or cookies.
The list of the qualifying team will be posted shortly. We have some students going mainly as cannon fodder to get Nat Quals experience. THANK YOU--you are playing a key role on this team in that position. Without you--we could not get as many students through as we will! You are important.
Finally: BRING HOMEWORK. There is suppose to be Internet on the bus. We have two long drives and a lot of down time in Okoboji. Several kids need to bring cards. But bring homework and stay caught up in classes.
Our judges are our coaches: Making the trip are Nate Fredericks, Sam Fairfield, Victor Cedeno and Billy Strong. Coach Harry Strong is on the district committee in tab helping to run the tournament. Do not bother him in tab--he CANNOT share information.
Remember you cannot scout at this tournament. You can listen to others speak in your speech rounds (and should) but you cannot enter a debate round and scout. Do not flow a round you are not competing in....do NOT share flows with others outside of your team...we do not want the tournament held up listening to protests. Remember, if a protest is filed the entire tournament stops at that point until it is resolved. That process can take an hour.
Right now I would expect to be able to roll the bus for Des Moines around 730pm...arriving Des Moines around midnight. This assumes no weather issues.
