While we won more "slots" than Dowling to Nationals and had 30 more rounds of debate than did Dowling, we TIED for sweeps under their new (and arguably stupid) formula. There are 5 tie breakers for sweeps and we lost the Sweeps trophy on the fifth tie breaker (who had more first place finishes than the other). further Dowling won the District Trophey and it will be retired there since they have no won it three times since it was last retired there. Remember, we got the trophy in 2008 for a year. that was the first time it had been here since it was retired her in the 90s. it will be several more years before we are eligible to win the trophy again as there are 4 schools ahead of us on the trophy list. Likely it goes to Sioux City North next season or to Valley.
The new formula doesn't value qualifiers equally. Hence Mike and Sam were third place and Kayleigh and Sarah fourth even though they were equal qualifiers. But it is what it is--we won anyway because we cleared more slots!
