We only had two students at Sioux City this weekend. BUT those two made a huge amount of noise and easily were the best speech kids in the field and easily the best debaters in the field.
Nathan edged Kayleigh by one rank pt and one speak pt in extemp and the two blew the field away--no one else close.
They they routed the PF field with a lot of talk from coaches and judges that NW Iowa just saw a National Qualifying team. No one was close to them in a round. One Heelen team hung for a while but the average opponent was destroyed by the 2nd cross X. It wasn't close. So they won that champinship and were the top speakers as well.
This was not what we were hoping for as Okoboji brought a bus load of kids but NOT their best PF and LD kids. That was disappointing. But at least these two students built a nice image with some strange NW Iowa judging! That was the goal. Get that judges pool convinced we are good early in the season.
