Very quietly, steps have been taken to secure a tournament date for Roosevelt that has a chance of becoming a more significan date on the speech and debate calendar for Roosevelt. As of this writing, we have committments from some major Iowa programs and one major Minnesota program to host on October 22nd and 23rd. WE WOULD COMPETE IN THIS EVENT.
The concept is to provide novices with one last chance before entering the Iowa Caucus (their first varsity experience) and provide a new major tournament stop for speech.
If you look at JOT, the announcement is up but not the details. There are some unknowns here but we have also invited a South Dakota program and a Nebrska program into the speech tournament. The odds are fair that we will land one of them.
So mark the date now as this will be an early committment to host. Schools indicating they will support the effort are Lakeville North, CR Washington, Dowling, and Roosevelt. We have not heard from Valley, Indinaola or Iowa City West.
