Another fantastic trip to Schwann's in Marshall, MN. There were over 750 students entered in over 1000 events competing in rural SW Minnesota. The only disappointing issue was that Eden Prairie, Apple Valley and Lakeview South didn't attend. But everyone who mattered in the State of Minnesota did attend.
First of all Roosevelt finished 9th in sweeps out of over 40 schools! This effort was led by Mirza and Amelia who both got National Circuit Final Round experiences at Schwann's this weekend. Mirza finished 3rd and Amelia 5th. It is a cumulative event from round one so your previous rounds all stay with you through finals.
It also marked the 3rd time in the past 4 years Roosevelt extemp students have made finals.
Sarah Larson finished in semi finals. Rachael Bandstra and Katy Roat both got their first ever national circuit quarter final rounds!
Tess Yocom and Katy Roat didn't advance in interp events but both had some positive rounds which was encouraging. They were also competing against a deep pool of highly talented students.
Kayleigh Courard Hauri and Sarah Larson did not fare well in Oratory.
Considering this tournament annually has at least 3 national champions in attendance and that schools from Denver, Salina KS, the South Dakota speech powerhouses and the Iowa speech power houses attended...any success in round in an accomplishment!
Way to go Riders!
