Other than a few lost items, and the snowstorm, it was a great trip back to George Mason University this past weekend. Our round robin teams performed VERY well against some difficult competition. We should never doubt our abilities to win at Public Forum debate! All 4 RR students did well and Roosevelt took 3rd and 4th place. Catherine and Mirza lost a chance to be in the exhibition round on a tie breaker that went Walt Whitman's (Maryland) way.
In the regular tournament, Saturday was ugly with about 7 inches of snow. Much of it melted as it fell but still a good 3 inches was left on the ground making walking on campus an adventure.
Locals left the tournament for the saftey of home! We lost students, judges and more thanks to the snow. However, with 1400 entries a few chickens weren't missed and the tournament ended Saturday pretty much on time despite tab room issues with computers.
On Sunday, Catherine and Mirza made a nice run in Public Forum before going out in Quarterfinals. And Mirza and Amelia broke in Extemp but Mirza got the breaks and made finals.
We knew if either made it to semis we had a chance at an MBA bid but word tonight is that Mirza's 4th place finish dropped Dylan Slinger out of MBA's extemp round robin. In any event, we got someone there. Roosevelt extemp will keep its national ranking.
