7 RHS debate students nearly out muscled 40 plus students from Dowling to place 6th in debate sweeps. All of Roosevelt's points were from Public Forum debate where Rachael Bandstra and Kayleigh Courard-Hauri claimed the championship with a slick 3-0 win over Indianola. Best of all they dumped Dowling's Copley-Carmody for the 2nd time in the tournament in semi finals on a 2-1 decision.
Tess Yocom and Nick Swingle were also undefeated in 6 prelim rounds but lost a very questionable decision in sems.
Our two Varsity LD students both finished 3-3 in prelims. Taylor Yocom was the 4th best speaker and Sam Gerleman was 9th best overall. Nick Gerleman got his first LD experience-finishing 2-4.
A well run and successful tournament with special UNI awards...you can ask the girls about the jugs for championship trophies!
