Local LD camp opprotunity!!!!!!

Greetings!

At the end of this summer, we’re going to be hosting a week long mini-institute for Lincoln Douglas here at West High School. The “mini-institute” will run 10-14 August 2009 and be from 9am-4pm on those five days. The first two days will be for general activity introduction and skill building for our new debaters. The final three days will be philosophy lectures and focus on one of the possible 10 topics for the 2010 calendar year, culminating in some practice rounds.

If you’ll notice, we’re running this the week prior to the NFL’s September/October topic being released. We believe that this mini-institute will help get interested students started in the activity and dovetail nicely with the start of the first topic of the year!

The information to be covered (tentatively) includes the following:

Warm-up impromptu debates
Introduction to the activity format
Topic analysis
Case writing
Research
Value/Criterion
Cross Examination
Rebuttals
Crystallization
Basic Philosophy to know
Rhetorical Theory
Social Contract
Utilitarianism
Posts (modernism, colonialism, structuralism)
Derrida
Levinas
Rawls
Nozik
Butler
Practice with a possible topic on the skills
· Mini-tournament/round-robin
