We attempted to promote one novice from novi status to freshman late last week. Unfortunately the student got all wound up in a debate argument which was lost. However, coaches have reluctantly decided the time has come for said promotion. So we expect to see all novices on Wednesday in the debate room at 2:45! The short test will only take a few minutes and if the class passes...then your novice status will disappear! Since debate is verbal, the exam for promotion is verbal. I don't think any of you have anything to worry about..no reason to be boning up on things like:
Affirmative and negation positions
Counterplans
Congress styles
The concept of speed kills
How to write a case
Turns
Low Point Wins
Close Outs
Kritiks
Fallacious arguments
and more...
By chance, if you don't know this stuff you should be asking team members as you see them in the hallways, etc.
It will be good to have another class of novi under our belts. After all, you don't want to be novi when middle school practice begins. Then there would be no difference between the 8th and 9th grades classes. I don't ever recall hearing about that in Roosevelt history!
