Our team is significantly larger this year and so there are significantly more interactions of our students as a result. Coaches cannot be responsible for every little thing that happens in those interactions. Recently a facebook posting made by one of our students was seen by an alum of our program. They wasted no time in contacting me suggesting that the nature of the posting was both inappropriate and hurtfull.
I know the posting was intended to be funny and I know it was not intended to be hurtfull--HOWEVER the posting was visable to anyone who was a friend of one of our team members. Because that team member is well liked on the team--virtually everyone is her friend and thus the visability of the posting sent to her.
I doubt the poster realized their posting would be so visable and might have thought it was private conversation with a friend. That is the problem with facebook and sites of that nature--nothing is private.
Please be mindfull of the feelings of your teammates when you are active on the internet. Just because you have certain feelings toward someone doesn't mean everyone agrees. In this case an alum didn't have such feelings. Use your head!
