We have another student who has qualified to be named an Academic All-American. Olivia Sandbothe now exceeds the minimum requirements and her paperwork will be submitted as soon as possible. At a base level to become eligible:
Must be a Junior or Senior having completed 5 semesters of high school with a 3.7 gpa or higher.
College Test Scores of an equal to a 27 ACT required
Must have earned 750 NFL points
Coach's and Principal's recommendations must be favorable
Remarkably few students ever qualify for the AAA award. One big advantage to qualifying early (now that you can qualify as a junior) is that its an award which looks great to colleges. Because the requirements are reasonably difficult, its a nice affirmation of your classroom and debate efforts.
All Roosevelt students should be working to win this award. There were 5 in our district last season. There should be 5 each season at Roosevelt! If you are a junior or senior, you should be really working to win this award.
If you are an underclassman, NOW is the time to get your gpa above the 3.7 requirement. A senior with a 3.5 at the start of the year might not be able to improve their gpa enough to win the award...what you accomplish in the classroom early sets the tone for your academic career.
Grades matter and this is a very nice award (perhaps the nicest) you'll ever earn!
