Novice National Championship for Roosevelt

Congratulations to all of the students who made the trip to Novice Nationals this past weekend in Iowa City. Besides being a great bonding experience for the novice class, the level of our team performance was magnificant despite some bad breaks. Team reults are:

Chris Oman and Biance Flores NOVICE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN PUBLIC FORUM defeating Walt Whitman (Maryland) teams in semi finals and finals on perfect ballots to win. Go to this link if you think this doesn't mean anything as the major high school debate web sites have already picked up the details: http://victorybriefsdaily.com/2007/03/25/ross-brown-is-great-midwestern-novice-champion-des-moines-roosevelt-takes-public-forum/

Amelia Martin and Adele Crane finished 5th in Public Forum (a huge accomplishment for Roosevelt only over shawdowed by the other Roosevelt nocice PF team).

Additionally, Amelia Martin was the 3rd best speaker in Public Forum in the tournament!!!

Susan Crane was doubled entered in Extemp Speaking and Oral Interpretation and shined in both events: 3rd in Extemp (wow!) and 6th in OI. It was only the 3rd time she had attemped extemp and the 2nd time she had attemped OI>

Mirza Germovik cleared to the super session of Congress and placed 6th. It was only his 3rd Congress experience as well.

Charlie Wheeler and Elizabeth McCabe failed to advance in the tournament both victoms of some tough luck. Liz can hang her hat on one thing...two weeks ago she defeated Ross Brown of Valley who went on to win the Novice National Championship in Lincoln Douglas Debate for Valley.

What an exciting way for our novices to wind up their season. Congratulations Roosevelt!!!
